Kaleta real name Leon Ligan Majek hails from Porto Novo in the republic of Nigeria and lived most of his adolescent life in Lagos. Kaleta has played, toured and recorded with the likes of Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and Lauryn Hill to mention a few. This track first came to label manager Nik Weston's attention in the early part of 2007 and it's taken this long to get it out on the Mukatsuku label. The original track now re named 'The Sprit Of Fela Is Alive & Well !' was an epic afro masterpiece of over 14 minutes. GUYNAMUKAT (the production duo of Guynamite & Nik Weston ) edited that version down to half that losing none of energy for a killer afro beat monster tried and trusted now on the dance floors of France, Germany,Japan,Poland and at London clubs such as Jazz Cafe,Ronnie Scotts and Plastic People. When GUYNAMUKAT finally received the parts for a potential remix they discovered there were almost 800 separate musical sections and then the next few months began a mammoth task of dissecting the instrumentation and vocal takes with what they thought would work in an afro boogie style to introduce the band to a different style and hopefully a brand new audience.

An explosive slice of Afrobeat from Kaleta gets the licensing thumbs up from Mukatsuku, who finally get this gem to the Fela faithful. Originally clocking in at over 14 minutes, its been chopped virtually in half to add more punch and immediacy, whilst on the flip Guynamite and label boss Nik Weston add a more contemporary boogie house twist to the original, in doing so losing none of the vitality or the 'Fela' essence. 4/5 - found sounds DJ Magazine

Hailing from Nigeria, having lived most of his adolescent life in Lagos, this kool kat has recorded with the likes of Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and Lauryn Hill to mention a few and here gets a release on an independent of much quality. Also stepping up to the mark, label manager Nik Weston in his production duo with Guynamite turns out a ‘afro boogie labour of love ‘ remix. One for the jazzheads as much as lovers of outernational sounds. P - IDJ
